Dr Rajen Pillay is an ophthalmologist ( eye specialist ) in practice in the Midrand and Sunninghill areas of Gauteng, South Africa.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery ( MBBCh ) , University of Wiwatersrand
- Fellowship of the College of Ophthalmology , FCS ( Ophth ) SA.
Dr Pillay is a general ophthalmologist who treats conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration as well as eye injuries, allergies. He has a special interest in cataract surgery and diabetic eye disease.
Dr Rajen Pillay grew up in Pretoria, South Africa. He qualified as a medical doctor at the University of Witwatersrand in 1988, followed by an internship at Hillbrow Hospital. Dr Pillay gained experience by working at Kalafong Hospital in paediatrics, and as general practioner in Midrand. He returned to the University of Witwatersrand to specialise in ophthalmology.
Dr Pillay trained at St John’s Eye Hospital and Johannesburg General Hospital and qualified as an ophthalmologist in 2000. After working as a consultant specialist at St John’s Eye Hospital, he starting a private practice in Midrand in 2002 and has worked in Midrand and Sunninghill areas since then.
Dr Pillay often attends both local and international ophthalmology conferences.
He is registered with HPCSA as a specialist ophthalmologist. Also, he belongs to the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa (OSSA) as well as the South African Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (SASCRS).
